Black holes are massive and dense and have such a strong pull of gravity that not even light can escape them. Because light can't escape the black hole it creates an event horizon where once something crosses the event horizon it will never be seen again. It is believed that in the center of the black hole called a singularity a point where the curve of spacetime becomes infinite, but if the black hole is spinning it will become a ring singularity with no volume.
